An Aluminium 3 tier stand by Bramson airplane makers c1940 Print E-mail
1930s-1970s
An Aluminium 3 tier stand by Bramson airplane makers c1940I have had many pieces of this furniture over the years, all made by the same company. They were made from the surplus aluminium and skills available when the WW2 ended. The factories made really good quality bedroom furniture, desks, bookshelves and all sorts of household items. Sadly, when wood became freely available again, they all closed. This 3 tier stand is about  3ft tall in original sprayed finish.

A top quality late Victorian oak breakfront bookcase with locks stamped Hobbs and Co London Print E-mail
Light Oak Furniture
A top quality late victorian oak breakfront bookcase with locks stamped Hobbs and Co London

This well proportioned bookcase was made around 1890. The oak is a good light honey colour and the piece is extremely well made. The two glazed sections in the centre have very unusual mitred closing joints which we have never come across before. (please see the close up pictures in more). The Hobbs and Co locks are of the highest quality.
Hobbs and Co was started in 1851 by an American who showed off his prowess by attending the Great Exhibition of 1851 and picking the best locks of Chubb and Co (24 mins) and then Bramah's 1760 lock which had never been picked  since it was made!  He was very much feared in London until he opened his own lock makers which was very successful.
This piece is approx 8ft tall and 9ft 6ins long and breaks down into 9 parts, so is easily fitted and transported.
