Andrew Nebbett Interview
Andrew Nebbett InterviewAndrew’s passion for antiques started when he was a boy and was taken to visit his grandfather at work. His grandfather was the head of the Antiques and Interior Design Department at Harrods for over 36 years. So, combine this love of using antiques in a stylish setting with the love of sealing a deal, that was inherited from his Scrap Dealer father, and you have an Antique Dealer!

Andrew now runs the business with his wife Christine, from their workshops in Devon, where they live with their two sons.

The business has always focused on helping clients create unique rooms with pieces from across the periods, that work together and with more modern pieces because they have clean lines. Importantly these pieces have all been checked by their dedicated workshops to ensure that the new owners can enjoy them and be proud of them!

What's your favourite Christmas tradition?
Christmas TreesGoing to a nearby farm that sells Xmas trees, and being allowed to walk up through their plantation to choose the biggest tree that we think we can squeeze into the house ! We then go out and about on our farm to collect holly and ivy to decorate.  We play Christmas music while we decorate, and when we have finished the house looks and smells very festive.

What's the most memorable Christmas present you've ever given?
CitroenWe bought our boys an old Citroen car, an MOT failure, which we then drove around the fields at home for the whole of Xmas.  They were amazed, and it only cost £100 for such a lot of fun!

What's the most treasured gift you've ever received?
Silver LadyI was given a Silver Lady from a Rolls Royce Phantom, which was passed down from my grandfather. My grandfather was a scrap metal dealer and had kept it from a Rolls Royce that he had scrapped before the war.

What products from the shop are topping client's wish lists this Christmas?
Champagne BucketsThe most popular purchases have been champagne buckets, cream ware and vintage hand bags

What's your favourite London Christmas destination or activity?
HarrodsIt has to be to see the window displays and do some shopping at Harrods! This always takes me back to my childhood ! My favourite memory of Christmas at Harrods was as a young lad going to see father Christmas there. This meant a trip through the famous toy department first....even now this department has a special magic ... Maybe because it has no windows the only lights coming from the flashing toys and noises of amazing latest toys just on the Market. I still have the same weakness for it today and taking my two boys aged 10 and 13 there puts me back to their age in an instant.

My grandfather would then come up from his office in the design department and we would go for lunch in the  Harrods restaurant on the fourth floor. I remember it being a buffet where you could eat as much as you wanted and go back as many times as you could make room for !

Mulled wine or hot port?
Mulled WineDefinitely mulled wine…but could I have a dash of port in it ?!

Christmas shopping: personal nightmare or a great way to get in the spirit of the season?
Christmas ShoppingMy favourite way to do Christmas shopping is to visit Exeter one afternoon for a massive shopping trip and to make sure that it coincides with a carol service afterwards at Exeter Cathedral.

Christmas cake: love it or hate it?
question-8Too sweet! But I don’t hate it, I'll always have one slice to be festive !

Quiet New Year's celebration at home or out in a crowd?
question-9Noisy at home with the family and loud music.  We each take turns to choose our favourite tracks.  One year we were so enthusiastic that we blew up an amp!! It made a good excuse to check out the after Christmas sales the next day…

Do you believe in New Year's resolutions?
New Years ResolutionsYes …it’s a great time to try something new or change a habit or routine.
